9 things to remember before watching

The reason Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), also known as The Mandalorian or Mando, wears his mask all the time isn’t just to protect himself. He is an integral part of the tribe that raised him.

The Children of the Watch are a cult-like group of Mandalorians who follow the Way of Mandalore, an ancient faith. Finding Mando orphaned, the tribe raised him in their own way as a hunter, but an integral part of their belief is that they keep their helmets on at all times, not allowing any humans to see their identity.

Of course, if you’ve seen the first two seasons of “The Mandalorian,” you’ll know that Mando had to break this rule to survive and complete his missions. Therefore, when Mando returned to the tribe in “The Book of Boba Fett” episode five, they banished him for breaking their code.

Mando tried to get mercy but the tribe’s leader, the Armorer (Emily Swallow), said the only way to become Mandalorian again was to bathe in the flowing waters of the mines on the planet Mandalore.

This means that for the first time, Mando has no tribe to get him out of tough situations.

In “The Mandalorian” season two, Mando’s primary mission was to unite Grogu, also known as Baby Yoda, with a Jedi to train him in the ways of the Force. In episode seven of season two, Grogu appeals to the universe to find a Jedi.

In the finale, Luke Skywalker comes to the rescue to save Mando and take Grogu to training. In episode six of “The Book of Boba Fett”, we see Luke attempting to train Grogu. However, it eventually becomes clear that Grogu’s attachment to Mando has hindered his ability to learn the ways of the Jedi.

At the end of the episode, Grogu has a choice: stay and learn how to use the Force and claim Yoda’s original lightsaber, or return to Mando. Grogu chooses the latter and reunites with Mando in the season finale “The Book of Boba Fett”.

In season two, episode seven of “The Mandalorian”, Mando’s main ship, the Razor Crest, was destroyed by the Imperial villain Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito).

In episode five of “The Book of Boba Fett”, Mando searches for a new ship, which leads him to Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris) in Tatooine. According to Mando, she said she found him a new ship like the Razor Crest, but instead it was a broken down Naboo fighter – the same one used in “The Phantom Menace”.

Mando reluctantly agrees to help Peli repair it and claim it as his new ship. The trailers for the third season of “The Mandalorian” show that this new ship is here to stay, at least for now.

Along with a new ship, Mando also has a new weapon, the Darksaber. The weapon was first seen in the Season 1 finale of “The Mandalorian” when Moff used it to escape his crashed ship in the episode’s final scene.

In the season two finale, Mando and Gideon battle for possession of Grogu while on the Imperial Villain’s ship, and Gideon uses the Darksaber against Mando’s Beskar Spear.

After Mando wins the battle, he attempts to return the Darksaber to his ally Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), which is when he learns the meaning of the weapon.

This is actually an ancient Mandalorian weapon that can be used to reunite the people of Mandalore. However, if not won in battle, it will instead curse the user and the Mandalorians.

As a result, Bo-Katan refuses to take the Darksaber from Mando, leaving him to decide what to do with the weapon. Could Mando potentially reunite the scattered remnants of the once mighty planet Mandalore? Or will the new weapon put him in danger?

One of the Children of the Watch members once tried to defeat Mando for the weapon in episode five of “The Book of Boba Fett.” It wouldn’t be surprising if the Darksaber put a new target on its back.

In addition to recounting Grogu’s adorable adventures, “The Mandalorian” season three will see Mando return to the ruined planet of Mandalore for a very specific reason.

The planet was bombarded relentlessly by the Empire because they knew they could never control its people due to their religion revolving around war.

Din returns to the planet because the Armorer (Emily Swallow) exiled him in “The Book of Boba Fett” for removing his helmet in front of other people, and the only way for him to redeem himself is to find the living waters that are under the mines of Mandalore.

It’s unclear how or why a Mandalorian can atone for their sins by traveling to the Whitewaters, but it will be a difficult journey as they are believed to have been destroyed in the bombardment.

When the first episode of “The Mandalorian” arrived in 2019, it was just Mando wandering around the galaxy alone. But since then he has amassed a large number of allies, including Grogu, of course.

But aside from the cute green alien, he can also count on the likes of Nevarro magistrate Greef Karga (Carl Weathers), ship engineer Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris), gray Jedi Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), Jedi Master Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), sniper Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), and fellow bounty hunter Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison).

Din also had a close friendship with Cara Dune (Gina Carano), but the actor was fired by Disney after comparing Republicans to persecuted Jews.

Of course, Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) was another key ally in “The Mandalorian” season two. She was on a mission to retrieve the Darksaber and restore Mandalore to glory. But Mando receiving the Darksaber threw a spanner in the works.

As mentioned, it’s likely that there will be a conflict between Bo-Katan and Mando or between the various Mandalorian clans over the Darksaber.

The second season of “The Mandalorian” ended with Mando, Bo-Katan, Cara Dune, Fennec Shand, and Luke Skywalker battling Moff Gideon and his dark soldiers in an effort to save Grogu from the remnants of the Empire.

Ultimately, Gideon was apprehended by the gang after their fight, but it’s unknown what happened to him after that, as the season ended with Luke abducting Grogu from the ship.

In episode 5 of “The Book of Boba Fett”, Mando told the Children of the Watch that Gideon had been handed over to the New Republic to be questioned and tried for his crimes.

So for now, it seems safe to assume he’s a prisoner of the New Republic – but probably not for long.

In the Season 1 premiere of “The Mandalorian,” the assassin droid IG-11 (Taika Waititi) made his first appearance trying to hunt Grogu for a bounty. Mando and IG-11 initially teamed up to win the bounty, but after seeing the baby, the Mandalorian betrayed his droid ally to save him.

IG-11 returned later in the season, having been reprogrammed by Mando’s ally Kuiil (Nick Nolte) to help the Farmer. After Kuiil was killed in episode seven, IG-11 joined Mando in protecting Baby Yoda as they headed towards Nevarro.

Unfortunately, while on the planet, they were surrounded by stormtroopers sent by Gideon. In the season finale, IG-11 ultimately sacrificed and self-destructed in order to protect Mando, Grogu, and his allies.

“Star Wars” has a lot of planets, but one of the most important in “The Mandalorian” is Nevarro. We are first introduced to the planet in the first season as the base of the Bounty Hunters Guild, which Mando works for.

However, after Mando betrayed the Empire, freeing Grogu, the planet was seized by Gideon and his Imperial forces. Greef Karga, a former Guild agent, attempted to ensnare Mando in Nevarro in episode seven but changed his mind when Grogu healed his wounds.

After the skirmish with the Empire in the Season 1 finale, Greef decided to help rebuild and clean up the planet, serving as a magistrate, while Cara Dune served as its marshal.

In the season three trailers, it looks like Greef has cleaned up the main town of Nevarro quite a bit, going from a dirty, dark town to a bright, prosperous town.
