Lisa Marie Presley’s ex-husband Michael Lockwood has filed paperwork to represent their daughters at an upcoming hearing.
Lockwood, 61, wants to represent the interests of twins Harper and Finley, 14, in a hearing involving Lisa Marie’s multi-million dollar trust, according to TMZ.
The guitarist – who was married to the late singer from 2006 to 2021 – is asking a judge to appoint him “guardian ad litem” and grant him the power to speak on behalf of the girls.
Presley – who suffered a fatal cardiac arrest on January 12 at the age of 54 – had two life insurance policies, one for $25 million and another for $10 million. The trust has become a major point of contention for the family, including Lisa’s mother Priscilla Presley, 77, and eldest daughter Riley Keough, 33.
Priscilla was originally a director but was removed by the star a few years before her death and replaced by Riley. The will contains the rights to the Graceland mansion and a 15% stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises.
In a 2016 amendment to her will, Lisa Marie removed her mother as executor and named her two adult children Riley and Benjamin Keough as her sole heirs. Lisa shared Riley and Benjamin with her first husband Danny Keough, 58. The couple were married from 1988 to 1994.
Benjamin died by suicide in 2020 and left Riley as sole heir, but Priscilla is now contesting the amendment, which left her out of the will entirely.
Michael would be aligned with Priscilla on the issue of trust, which could see them fighting in court against Riley.
It was also recently reported that Priscilla and Lisa Marie “barely spoke” before the latter died after siding with Lockwood during a bitter custody battle over the twins.
Multiple sources told People that the mother and daughter weren’t on good terms before Lisa Marie’s death, despite appearing at several events together, including the Elvis biopic.
The former couple fought in court until October 2022, and the tension spilled over to Lisa Marie’s daughter Riley.
“Riley has always been on his mother’s side when it came to Michael,” a source told People. “It bothered her that her grandmother and Michael went to the funeral together.”
Priscilla also helped Michael navigate his way into the ceremony, despite his late daughter’s wishes.
“Michael was not invited,” a close friend of Lisa Marie told the magazine. “He came to Memphis on the pretext that he was to chaperone the twins – and he broke in with the help of Priscilla.
“The last thing Lisa Marie would have wanted was for Michael to be here.”
During the custody battle in 2019, Lisa Marie filed an amendment to her living trust, making Riley and her late son Benjamin her heirs, and removing Priscilla and her former manager Barry Siegel as co-trustees.
Priscilla has filed a motion to question the ‘authenticity and validity’ of the trust after claiming Lisa Marie’s signature was ‘inconsistent’. She filed the petition in a Los Angeles court just days after her daughter’s memorial service.
The grandmother-of-four also claimed she had no idea Lisa Marie switched the trust in 2016 until her daughter died.
If Priscilla’s petition wins, she and Riley would be named co-trustees of Lisa Marie’s estate, but neither wants the other’s influence, a source said.
“Priscilla doesn’t want Riley to be solely responsible because then she doesn’t have a say. Meanwhile, Riley doesn’t want Priscilla to interfere,’ a source told People.
“It’s a very sad situation. Riley is shocked that Priscilla is challenging the amendment,’ another source said. “They are not okay with it,” another source said. The couple are expected to face off in front of court on April 13.
Michael and Lisa Marie, who is Elvis’ only child, spent years fighting over finances and were still negotiating until his death.
Michael lost his 2016 offer during their divorce to void their prenup, but he reopened the case in 2021.
Prior to his death, they reportedly shared custody of their children 50/50, with Michael caring for them with his new wife and Lisa Marie paying the guitarist $4,600 in child support a month.
However, Radar reported that they recently reached a settlement where she would pay him $6,000 a month.
In a recent court filing, Michel claimed that his ongoing legal battle with Lisa Marie over their split had cost him over $1 million in legal fees and he was considering bankruptcy.
He was asking for $40,000 a month in child support and insisted she had more money than she claimed in court documents.
The final settlement has not been made public, but within days of the agreement Michael remarried as he married Stephanie Hobgood.
Meanwhile, the twins – who lived with their mother in their $4million Calabasas home when she died – have since split their time between their grandmother Priscilla’s home and their father’s.
The guitarist married Lisa Marie in 2006 and they welcomed Finley and Harper in 2009 but separated in 2016 before a bitter divorce battle.
