Oscars: Angela Bassett praised for ‘genuine’ reaction after being ‘snubbed’ again at Oscars

Angela Bassett was ‘snubbed’ at the Oscars following Jamie Lee Curtis’ surprise win for Best Supporting Actress.

During the 2023 ceremony, Everything everywhere all at once Actor Lee Curtis won Best Supporting Actress, which caught the attention of the crowd as Bassett was considered the frontrunner.

In fact, Curtis was the third seed behind Bassett and Banshees of Inisherin star Kerry Condon, who won the Bafta for Best Supporting Actress earlier this month.

While many are happy for Curtis, given his long career in Hollywood, many are also expressing sadness for Bassett, who found herself in a similar position in 1992.

Bassett was nominated for Best Actress for her role as Tina Turner in the biopic What’s love got to do with it? in 1994, but was beaten by Jane Campion star Holly Hunter The piano.

The actor’s fans are praising Bassett, who was nominated for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, following his disappointed reaction to the announcement. As Curtis celebrated his victory, an emotional Bassett kept a blank look on his face, with many supporting his decision not to “fake excitement”.

“Angela Bassett’s reaction was real,” wrote one fan, adding, “This woman gave so much to all her Oscar movies to steal her again?!?”

“Angela Bassett deserves one and everyone knows it,” wrote one fan, adding, “Don’t get me wrong, Jamie Lee Curtis has a phenomenal job, but Angela’s Oscars are LONG overdue and it’s heartbreaking to see her get played in the face. The emotion when she lost, she had a blank face. She is incredible. She was SNUBBED.

“Angela Bassett didn’t do the thing just to be snubbed like that,” one person said, referencing Ariana DeBose’s viral rap rap Baftas, which included the lyrics, “Angela Bassett did the thing.”
