Speculating on rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favorite pastime for many fans, perhaps right after watching matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors from the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that: rumours. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it’s just circulating in the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track the accuracy of rumors in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back which you can find here. Remember, take everything with a grain of salt.
Rumors of the day:
- Discussing Solo Sikoa’s victory over Sami Zayn on Friday’s SmackDown, and the fact that Sikoa didn’t lose in singles on the main roster, Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio, “They’re not going to beat Solo. They keep Solo for Roman, whenever that day comes.
- It seems pretty obvious, but Fightful Select reports that WWE is still interested in signing MJF when his AEW contract expires. The most interesting thing is that no one really knows when it will be. When asked privately, MJF says the same thing he says publicly about his early 2024 expiration, but most assume he signed some kind of extension before returning to AEW in All out Last year.
- Along those same lines, WWE roster members say MJF told them he “can’t wait to be here in 2024.” While MJF wants them to take it seriously, one talent says they take what he says “with a grain of salt.”
- Speaking of Max, Sean Ross Sapp from Fightful tweeted that the MJF child was splashing himself with a glass Revolution was not a plant. The youngster was reportedly very upset, with members of the media and AEW officials like Amanda Huber visiting him to smooth things over after the incident. UPDATE: More about this here.
- Regarding Ronda Rousey’s injury, Meltzer said on WOR that whatever the issue, Ronda might not be fully recovered when she does wrestle again. WWE hopes it will be at WrestleMania, where Dave says the “original idea” was for Rousey and Shayna Baszler to win the women’s titles.
- Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that AEW is not using Rebel at this time because they don’t believe she is working under Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter’s babyface act.
