The 16-year-old son of singer-songwriter Ben Kweller, Dorian, died in a car accident on Monday.

The 41-year-old musician – who has toured with the likes of Ed Sheehan – confirmed the tragic news in an Instagram post shared on Tuesday.

“There’s no way I can type this but I’m…. Our son, Dorian Zev Kweller, was killed last night. He was only 16 years old and he was a true legend. The kindest, sweetest soul, a friend to all,” Kweller wrote.

“If you knew him, you know him. We will never get over it while we are here on earth,” he continued. “Please keep his spirit alive with your memories and the music he made.”

The ‘Wasted & Ready’ crooner – who shared Dorian with his wife, Liz Smith Kweller – went on to say how proud he was of his son for following in his footsteps.

“We will never get over this while we are here on earth,” the musician wrote.
Ben was proud of Dorian for following in his footsteps as a recording artist.

“Dorian Zev wrote and recorded songs every day. A true poet since the day he started speaking,” Ben continued. “Only a few of his recordings came out, but he was on the right track and excited about his journey.”

He added that Dorian’s “first big gig” was in a few weeks at the South by Southwest conference and festivals in Austin, Texas.

“My last text with him was about the merchandising we wanted to do,” Ben shared. “My little boy was on the starting line with so much life ahead of him…I don’t know why things like this happen.”
